Matrimonial Law / Getting Married in Saint Kitts-Nevis

If you are visiting the Federation of Saint Kitts-Nevis and would like to get married on either one of the two islands, Liburd and Dash can assist a couple in beginning their new life together. Herman Liburd is a Justice of the Peace and can perform a civil ceremony for the intended couple. If you would prefer to get married in a religious ceremony, we can help you to retain the appropriate authority. If you would like a Catholic priest to perform the ceremony, a letter from the couple's home priest stating that the couple is unmarried is required. If a Protestant Minister or Reverend of another religion will perform the ceremony, a letter stating that the couple is known and unmarried is needed.

There is a waiting period of two (2) business days (excluding Saturday, Sunday and local Holidays) to obtain a Marriage License. If the couple is in the Federation for the less than fifteen (15) days, the cost of the license is US$80.00. However, if the couple is in Saint Kitts-Nevis for fifteen (15) days or more, the cost of the license is US$20.00. The couple needs to bring a passport or birth certificate and proof of divorce or death certificate of former spouse. If either intended spouse is under the age of eighteen (18), a notarized letter granting parental consent to the union is required. Any documents not in English must be translated and notarized. No blood test is required to get married in Saint Kitts-Nevis.
