Dear Professor Q.P. Sun,

We were greatly shocked to learn from HKSTAM’s obituary that Professor Allen T. Chwang, the past- president of HKSTAM past away suddenly on June 13, 2007 in Hong Kong. Professor Chwang, academician of CAS was a well-known expert in fluid dynamics for his outstanding achievements in the research of low Reynolds number flows, water wave dynamics and ocean engineering.  When serving as Sir Robert Ho-Tung Chair Professor in the University of Hong Kong since 1991, he endeavored to contribute to the enhancement of academic exchange and cooperation between Hong Kong and mainland scholars.  His recent efforts were focused on promoting the advancement of ocean science and technology in China to meet the demand of economic development.  Please allow me to express my condolences on his untimely death, which actually is a great loss for mechanics community as well as HKSTAM and the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the University of Hong Kong.  Also, Please convey my profound consolation to his family members.
