Abstract:
This paper presents recent advances in the studies of dynamic plastic failure of commonly used engineering structural elements (such as beams, plates, cylindrical shells, circular rings, and structures of sandwich or composite materlals), subjected to large dynamic loads over a short-duration. The failure modes of such structural elements are of universal significance. It is suggested in this paper that a nondimensional number, the damage number, be used to represent a universal failure criterion for differe...
