Abstract:
Poisson’s ratio is an important mechanical concept and an elastic constant of materials in mechanics of materials course teaching. Accordingly, this work aims at extending and supplementing the teaching content of the Poisson’s ratio in the mechanics of materials course, by means of introducing the concept of negative Poisson’s ratio, common negative Poisson’s ratio materials and their advantages in mechanical performance. More importantly, based on the concave honeycomb metamaterial, the theoretical analysis and corresponding teaching practice of the metamaterials with negative Poisson’s ratio are introduced. Besides, referring to the virtual simulation experiment, by using finite element analysis, the negative Poisson’s ratio effect is simulated and discussed, so as to intuitively show the deformation modes and negative Poisson’s ratio effect on the metamaterial. Accordingly, above acts as a pointcut to deepen the understanding and practical usage of the important knowledge of the bending internal force, deflection, strain and Poisson ratio for the students.
