RESEARCH ON THE PRESSURE DROP MODEL FOR IDEAL VESSELS WITH DIFFERENT STENOSIS RATES

  • As one of the diagnostic parameters, quantification of pressure drop across the stenotic arteries is clinically important in diagnosing the risk of artery stenosis. In this paper, we propose an accurate formula to estimate the pressure drop between the inlet and outlet of three-dimensional straight blood vessels with ideal stenotic structures. We first perform numerical simulations on the three-dimensional ideal stenotic vascular models with different stenosis rates, and summarize the variations of pressure drop caused by the change of stenotic rates. The classical zero-dimensional (0D) model severely underestimates the pressure drop at high stenotic rates, and thus a correction model, which considers the effects of area reductions and Reynolds number, is introduced. The parameters in the model are determined by using the simulated annealing algorithm and the data from the simulations. By comparing with the estimation results of other 0D models, the present correction model can effectively improve the prediction accuracy of the pressure drop covering the Reynolds numbers ranging from 75 to 500 and the reduction areas ranging from 0.35 to 0.8.
