TEACHING APPROACHES FOR A FRACTIONAL-ORDER VISCOELASTIC MODEL OF DYNAMIC MECHANICAL RELAXATION IN AMORPHOUS SOLIDS

  • Dynamic mechanical relaxation behavior is an important method to understand the mechanical/physical properties of amorphous solids. On the basis of the fundamental theoretical models, we introduced the characteristics of dynamic relaxation behavior. The Debye relaxation model and fractional-order viscoelastic models were used to describe the dynamic relaxation behavior of amorphous solids. Importantly, incorporating the dynamic relaxation behavior of amorphous alloys, the application of fractional-order viscoelastic model in experimental research and engineering practices was discussed. This paper integrates the author’s recent years of teaching and practical experience in the theory of dynamic mechanical relaxation of amorphous alloys, combining discussions on teaching content and logical methods based on students’ classroom learning outcomes. The teaching methods presented in this paper could offer insights and approaches for instructors teaching courses related to the dynamic mechanical relaxation of amorphous solids.
